triphony | Sound Installation, 2022

TITLE: triphony (2022) is an electronic sound piece comprised of personal and public sonic materials

Description: sound structures feeling, memory, and identity— from the music we listen to, to the phrases we use repeatedly, to the accents our tongues carry, to the tv jingles we grew up hearing—these fragments of sound paint an aural picture of who we are. in this piece Romani, Romanian and American sound objects that populate the artist’s interior sound-world are thrown in relief. the sonic material in triphony draws on communist-era archival television programs, children’s songs, lautareasca music, street recordings, classical music, and intimate family dialogues. inspired by the concept of a "house of mirrors," the sounds bounce off one another, reflect and refract ad infinitum as a metaphor for the messiness and beauty of syncretic and multifariousness of cultural heritage.
